Unfurled Parchments

“Should we say the self, once perceived, becomes the soul?” ~Theodore Roethke

Google Images

She was a pristine enigma
In a world of unfurled parchments
A jigsaw puzzle of a million pieces
some discovered, some missing

There were facets of herself
she was yet to fathom
There were mysteries and riddles
she was yet to answer

Far and wide she went
Seeking, deseperately, some lucidity
Praying for the fulfillment
she didn’t know she needed

Drained and exhausted
she ended the ardurous voyage
Only then did she realize,
her answers lay closer

She found them in her heart,
in the hearts of people she loved,
inscribed in the pages
of love letters of her youth

She found them hidden
between the pages of an old book,
in the embrace of her family
and the scent of her home.

Always, of course. I think those last two stanzas really unfurl the poem completely, and part of what I enjoy about this piece is that it feels be unfolding like the title states. You have a lovely rest of your day as well!

She found them in her heart,
in the hearts of people she loved,
inscribed in the pages
of love letters of her youth— this verse gave me goosebumps. So beautifully written. Love it😇

Hi Cheryl, thank you for taking the time to read and for the kind words! I do think it’s universal, too. So many of us try to find ourselves on the outside. When it’s all within us. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Hope you have a blessed day. 🌹

Hey wordsmith, now I actually got the meaning of your page tagline..😅😅
beautiful read it was, especially these lines,

““A jigsaw puzzle of a million pieces
some discovered, some missing”
I remind something scary from it,
But thank god it’s just your creation!!😁😁

I love how you set up the ending of this enchanting piece in the opening lines! The charm and old-world scent lies heavy upon this poem and makes me see so clearly the yellowed and precious edges of a scroll on love.

This was so heartwarming Rishika. It indeed is this little heart of ours that carries the answers to our questions. Enigmatic it may seem, even complex sometimes but eventually we figure it out. The ones true, that stay close no matter what are the one to hold on to. Excellent poetry Rishika. Well done. 😇
