A Funeral

β€œSome people get lost for so long that they forget what it was like to be themselves.”
~Anonymous
It is inevitable to lose one’s own self at some point. Sometimes, the only way to find yourself is to get completely lost.

your heart was but a beast,
a friend of the devil
that yearned to grasp
the reins of my heart.

My soul was starving,
I believed the lies you fed me
alas, you walked over my heart
until I was but a shadow
of who I used to be.
Flickering.

I dug a shallow pit
by a brook beside the green fields
to bury the memories,
the good and the bad.

I left lilies over it.
Your favourite.
Hence was the funeral
of the girl I used to be.

Lovely poem and photos, Rishika! All of us can relate to the experience described so beautifully in your poem. I liked the imagery of digging a hole and planting his favorite flowers as a burial of the girl she used to be. Loss of identity is the hallmark of a destructive relationship, I think.
Thank you for following my site. I look forward to reading more of what you write.
Stay safe and be happy! Cheryl

Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to read. Unfortunately, I think there’s a point where everyone needs to go through losing themselves, it’s the comeback that matters! I really appreciate your support. Have a great day and stay safe

Right! We cannot know, yet. Let’s enjoy the journey as it is, now.

“Feel all of your feelings and love yourself for all that is you.” This is the mantra that works for me. Best wishes to you, Velu

Hey Rebecca, thank you for taking the time to read. At one point, we all move on from the people we used to be, I guess. Of course she can! She evolves to become a phenomenal version of herself, which I am sure you did! I will check it out and participate. Have a great day and stay safe 🌼
